Sichuan Infused Bliss - Pandas

Chengdu is the capital city of the Sichuan province.  Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is situated on the Axe Hill 10 kilometers from the north suburb of Chengdu City. It covers an area of 600 acres.

Watching the pandas devour their breakfast from a very close distance.

The pandas are clearly a symbol of pride for China and are very well cared for with efforts towards their future conservation.

One of the highlight of our time in Chengdu was the Panda Conservation Camp. It is surprising just how close you can get to the pandas

Pandas are nocturnal, which means we had to get up early and make our way out to the panda research base in time to watch them eat breakfast before they dozed off again.

Some of the pandas occupied their outdoor natural habitat areas although I understand they are kept in caged facilities at night.

The baby pandas are adorable.  It is so easy just watching the panda cubs playing together, much like mischievous children.

The cubs were so very adorable and cute, little black and white balls of fluff which were too gorgeous for words

Pandas at play are the funniest thing to see, climbing over railings and slides and rumbling with one another.

There were both giant pandas and red pandas

The survival rate for pandas is quite low which together with their long gestation period (and other economic development issues) and short window of time for annual breeding, explains their dropping numbers.

As we depart, the cultural attache shares that he would like to dress up in a kung fu out fit and leap into the enclosure and perform some kung fu panda style.
